<p dir=\"ltr\" style=\"text-align: left;\">It is not known whether this drug is excreted in human milk. Because many drugs are excreted in human milk, caution should be exercised when is administered to a nursing woman.</p>

Precautions{}{}{}
<ul> <li dir=\"ltr\" style=\"text-align: left;\">Anaphylaxis and Angioedema: can cause <a href=\"https://www.rxlist.com/script/main/art.asp?articlekey=10935\">anaphylaxis</a> and <a href=\"https://www.rxlist.com/script/main/art.asp?articlekey=2253\">angioedema</a> after the first dose or at any time during treatment. Signs and symptoms have included difficulty breathing, <a href=\"https://www.rxlist.com/script/main/art.asp?articlekey=5919\">urticaria</a>, and swelling of the throat and tongue. Patients should be instructed to discontinue and seek immediate medical care should they experience signs and symptoms of anaphylaxis or angioedema.</li> <li dir=\"ltr\" style=\"text-align: left;\">Progressive Multifocal Leukoencephalopathy</li> <li dir=\"ltr\" style=\"text-align: left;\">Lymphopenia: may decrease lymphocyte counts</li> <li dir=\"ltr\" style=\"text-align: left;\">Liver Injury: The onset has ranged from a few days to several months after initiation of treatment with TECFIDERA. Signs and symptoms of liver injury, including elevation of serum aminotransferases to greater than 5-fold the upper limit of normal and elevation of total bilirubin to greater than 2-fold the upper limit of normal have been observed Elevations of hepatic transaminases. Obtain serum aminotransferase, alkaline phosphatase (ALP), and total bilirubin levels prior to treatment and during treatment, as clinically indicated. Discontinue if clinically significant liver injury is suspected</li> <li dir=\"ltr\" style=\"text-align: left;\"><strong>Flushing: </strong>may cause flushing (e.g., warmth, redness, itching, and/or burning sensation)</li> </ul>

<p style=\"text-align: left;\">   DMF is contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to it or to any of the excipients. Reactions have included anaphylaxis and angioedema.</p>
Administration and Dosage{}{}{}
<ul> <li dir=\"ltr\" style=\"text-align: left;\">The starting dose for DMF is 120 mg twice a day orally</li> <li dir=\"ltr\" style=\"text-align: left;\">After 7 days, the dose should be increased to the maintenance dose of 240 mg twice a day orally</li> <li dir=\"ltr\" style=\"text-align: left;\">Temporary dose reductions to 120 mg twice a day may be considered for individuals who do not tolerate the maintenance dose. Within 4 weeks, the recommended dose of 240 mg twice a day should be resumed</li> <li dir=\"ltr\" style=\"text-align: left;\">The incidence of flushing may be reduced by administration with food</li> </ul>
