<ul> <li style=\"text-align: left;\">All medicines have some side effects with their desirable therapeutic properties. Although not all side effects of a medicine is observed in patients using that medicine.</li> <li style=\"text-align: left;\">Most important side effect: Muscular problems, renal dysfunction and hepatic dysfunction</li> <li style=\"text-align: left;\">Other side effects: Headache, tiredness, abdominal pain, flatulence, constipation, flushing, palpitation, muscle and joint pain, dizziness, sleepiness, nausea, rash, diarrhea.</li> </ul>
Drug Interaction{}{}{}
<ul> <li style=\"text-align: left;\">Clarithromycin, erythromycin, nicotinic acid, cholofibrate, clotrimazole, myconazole, ketoconazole, diltiazem, cyclosporine, and grapefruit juice increase the serum concentration of atrovastatin and may therefore increase myopathy.</li> <li style=\"text-align: left;\">Rifampicine, antacids and colstipol decrease the serum concentration of atrovastsin, thereby reducing its efficacy.</li> <li style=\"text-align: left;\">Atrovastatin increases the serum concentration of digoxin and birth control pills.</li> </ul>

<p style=\"text-align: left;\">Amlodipine and atrovastatin may be secreted into the milk of breast feeding mothers. Therefore, because of potential risk of side effects, the administration of amlodipine atrovastatin is not recommended in nursing mothers unless necessary, in which case breast feeding must be stopped.</p>

<ul> <li style=\"text-align: left;\">In case of the following symptoms contact your physician:</li> <li style=\"text-align: left;\">Muscular problems such as pain, weakness, allergy, feeling of fever or unusual tiredness, nausea, vomiting, stomach pain, darkening of the urine, exhaustion, or yellowing of the eye or the skin and prior to undergoing surgery.</li> <li style=\"text-align: left;\">Before taking this medicine consult with your doctor if you consume alcohol or have these symptoms: heart problems, weakness, muscular pain, diabetes,thyroid problems, renal dysfunction.</li> <li style=\"text-align: left;\">Concurrent use of atrovastatin calcium with cyclosporine, fibric acid derivatives, erythromycin, niacine, azole antifungals, nicotinic acid, cholofibrate, clotrimazole, myconazole, diltiazem, clarithromycin, will potentially increase the possibility of mayopathy.</li> <li style=\"text-align: left;\">In case you miss a dose, take it immediately after you remember missing it, unless you have taken the last dose in less than 12 hours. In that case, do not take the missed dose and continue treatment as usual.</li> </ul>

<ul> <li style=\"text-align: left;\">Severe hepatic dysfunction</li> <li style=\"text-align: left;\"> Abnormal increase in serum transaminases such as SGOT or SGPT.</li> </ul>
Administration and Dosage{}{}{}
<ul> <li style=\"text-align: left;\"> Amlodipine: For the treatment of blood pressure, 5 mg once daily (maximum 10 mg).</li> <li style=\"text-align: left;\">Atorvastatin: For the reduction of cholesterol, 10 to 20 mg once daily.</li> </ul>

Mechanism of Action{}{}{}
<p style=\"text-align: left;\">This medicine is a combination of amlodipine (a dihydropyridine calcium channel blocker, which selectively prevents calcium absorption into vascular smooth muscle thereby controlling the blood pressure), and Atrovastatin (a hydroxymethyl glutaryl CoA reductase, HMG CoA inhibitor, which reduces the biosynthesis of cholesterol).</p>
